There are two types of optimization. On page optimization and Off page optimization. Here we discuss about On page optimization. On page optimization includes the optimization done directly on the webpage. On page optimization is done to make a webpage or website search engine friendly. It is also known as webpage optimization and it involves changes made on the webpage to get high rank and top listing in search engines. This can be done by using different on page optimization techniques. Mainly there are 8 best on page optimization techniques in SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Title Tag Optimization

One of the important  factor which plays a major role in the search engine is the title. Title is the first detail about our webpage and it should be selected by including the targeted keyword at the beginning. Select a title which is meaningful and its size should be about 512 pixels i.e about 55-60 characters. If it exceeds then the title will get broken.

Important points to be remembered in selecting a title:

  • Title should contain minimum 40 characters.
  • Title should contain no errors mainly grammatical errors.
  • Title should be related to the content.

Heading Tag Optimization

Heading tags are used to highlight headings, subheadings and important points. Heading tag is of sizes from <h1> to <h6> from which <h1> has the largest size and <h6> has the smallest size. Title  tag is included in <h1> tag. If title is not given then google will take <h1> tag as title. If <h1> tag is not there  then it will go for <h2> else <h3>. So try to give only one <h1> tag else it will create confusion to google.

Meta Tag Optimization

Unique content about our webpage should be given  as meta description.This description is displayed on the search engine with the title. If meta description is not given then Google will take any description from the content as meta description. Meta description can contain maximum of 155-160 characters.

URL Optimization

While giving URL take a simple one and should be meaningful as well as related to the content. Then it will be easier for Google in crawling the website. Targeted keyword should also be included in the URL.

Anchor Text Optimization

Anchor text is a clickable visible text and it has a hyperlink. Anchor text hyperlinks display to another location. Anchor text  will act as a recommendation for Google and reference to the users. Try to give the appropriate keyword as anchor text which will be meaningful.

Anchor text is represented as:

         <a href=””></a>

For eg: <a href=”https://www.bing.com/”>Bing</a>

Here Bing is the anchor text and  the URL “https://www.bing.com/” is the target page which is given as the link.

Image Optimization

Image can play a vital role in the presentation view of the website. Image can deliver the message in a single glance. While doing image optimization certain points are to be remembered. Google bots will not be able to find the detail of the image by seeing the URL. So we should add alternate text to the image, which helps Google bots in identifying the details of the image. While giving the file name try to name it with a related content, it will also be helpful for Google. Google bots will also analyses the surrounding content of the image for getting image details. Images from published website can also be added by adding its URL under the image courtesy.

Keyword Density Optimization

Keyword density means the ratio or the percentage of keywords out of the total number of words within the content. Including keywords in the content is a good usage but over in use will not help better. So around 2-5% is an optimal usage. Using keyword after a ‘,’ or ‘.’ will create more stress on the keyword since a user as well as the Google bots will stop there. Over usage of keyword can cause Google to  penalize the website and indexing can be blocked.

Authorship Optimization

Authorship creates a connection between the article authors and Google. When we publish a webpage to the internet we should verify the authorship because while crawling Google will check for the authorship. This is one among the important on page optimization techniques. Authorship will create authority and validity to the user. In case of a website the relationship is not author but it is publisher. In authorship optimization the connection is established using the Google profile. If Google profile contains the profile picture and personal data, then it create more trust value.

CONTENT

The contents of a website have a great importance. A website with good content can make better in SEO. Let’s see some of the qualities for a good content:

  • Original content: The content that we write or publish should be original. It should not be a copy write from other articles.
  • Content should be use full: We should not publish content for the sake of publishing. The content should have some useful information which adds the value to our website
  • Content should include text: Try to add text to accompany the non-text contents. That is, if are posting a video or image try to have some description about it.

PAGE TITLE

Page title plays a great importance in our website. It should be a unique keyword and also the title should be relevant to the contents of our webpage. Primary keyword should be included and title should not exceed 70 characters. The maximum pixel width should be 512.

META DESCRIPTION

Meta description appears in the bottom of the title in the search result. So it has to be descriptive and should not exceed 150 characters. This description leads the user to visit our site, so it should have useful information that attracts the user.

FORMATTING

A page should be properly formatted. The contents of our page should be categorized into paragraph and headings. We use H1, H2, H3, H4 tags for this. H1 tag is for the main title that the user will see when he opens the page. H2, H3, H4 are the subheading, minor and normal headings. Important part of the content should be highlighted with bold letters.

IMAGES

We can include images to our page to attract the users and also to break up the boring texts. Sometime the attractive images make the reader stay on our page. It’s better to add images related to the content of our page. By adding images we should not increase the loading time of the page. It’s better to use original images than existing. We can use alt tag to describe the image, it will help the search engine to understand what the image is about.

URL

Include appropriate URL for your page. It’s better to use shorter URL as it is easy to perform better search results. It will be good if we include the primary keyword in the URL.

INTERNAL LINKS

We can improve the SEO by using internal links in our website. We use anchor text optimization for this. Importance of adding internal links are:

  • It helps you to create your own web
  • It will help the search engine to know about your other pages
  • It tells the search engine which is your most important pages
  • It increase the time on your site

Modifications in Page Title

In SEO on page optimization, title optimization is very important. The SEO page title is placed in the head section of the HTML document. This title helps the search engines to recognize your web page. SEO title of each pages should be different and descriptive in a website. It has a character limit of 70, but the allowed maximum pixel width limit of a SEO title is 512 pixel. Because each characters have different pixel width. So it is better to make the character limit of SEO title of a page in between 55-60. If the limit exceeds, the search result of your web page will be shown incompletely as it doesn’t have much space to show the complete title which you give.

Meta Description Optimization in On Page SEO

The meta description tag of a web page will help the search engine to understand what included in the web page. This description will be the snippet for our web page listed in search results. If a web page lacks Meta Description Tag, the search engine may use appropriate content from the page as the snippet, If we haven’t given any Meta Description for the web page. There is a character limit of 160 characters for the Meta Description. In case of blog posts and articles published with CMS websites like wordpress, the character limits for meta description should be with 156 characters. because, the blog posts & article posts published with wordpress and similar CMS will automatically add date with the content copy in snippets. The HTML code format for the Meta Description is : <meta name=”description” content=”write the description here” />.

SEO Meta Keyword Tag Optimization

The Meta Keywords tags can be included with most imported keywords which we are focusing to list the web page. But in the present, it is not considered by the search engines like Google. Its better to not to use this tag because it gives information about our targeted keywords to our competitor. Google has officially announced that they do not consider keywords provided in meta keyword tags for listing a website in search engine results. So now a days, most of SEO professionals do not conduct keyword meta tag optimization with their SEO On page optimization practices.

CANONICAL TAG

The Canonical Tag can be used if we need to use the same content in different web pages or web sites. It is just to show the search engine that we are the owner of that content and to avoid confusion to the search engine which one to show. The Search engine definitely discourages content duplication. ROBOTS.TXT

The Robots.txt is a file, tells the search engine bots to crawl the web page or not. This is a notepad file have to be uploaded in the root directory of the website. We can restrict both the bots and user from visiting our web page or web site. We can adopt another method as adding noindex and nofollow in the robots meta tag. The HTML code format for Robots meta tag is : <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex,nofollow”>.

IMAGE OPTIMIZATION

Images in the website should be optimized to list in the image search. In order to optimize an image, we need to add an alt name with the image. Give a good and suitable keyword to the image so that it will list in the appropriate keyword that a user search. Consider this format to give alt name to an image <img src=”image name” alt=suited word” />

SITE MAPS      

A site can include XML and HTML site maps. The XML site map help the bots to understand about the website and the HTML sitemap help the user to get an outlook of the pages in your website. A single site map can include 500 URL’s.

BREAD CRUMBS

The Bread Crumb will help a user to navigate correctly in the website. It will help the user to understand where he is currently in the website.

BROKEN LINKS    

Chances of the appearance of broken link are another error we have to monitor. This error can be solved using 301 and 302 re directions. 301 redirection will redirect the broken link permanently. This will transfer the authority gained by the old page to the new redirected page. The 302 redirection will redirect the users temporarily. The gained authority by the old page remains same in the same page. In order to redirect a web page we have to upload a redirection file to the ht-access location.

DISAVOW TOOL

You need to remove non quality links from your website. This non quality links will promotes your website. In order to remove these non quality links, we need to upload a document that contains the list of unwanted URL’s. upload this document in the disavow section of the webmaster tools.
